1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Navigation
This vehicle is a rare Ferrari that is made even more rare by its unique and custom appointments and specifications. It was specified in a paint-to-sample finish and bespoke interior by a preferred client named Daniel Del Rio. It was given a competition-style outside fuel filler cap, Borrani wire wheels, 8/32 axle ratio, and instruments specified in miles. Per the buyer's request, the front grille was advanced 2 1/2 inches, and the competition mirror mounted on the driver's door was painted. It was delivered sans bumpers and wore a paint-to-sample green, later named Del Rio Verde Medio. The interior was done in Arancia (orange) Connolly leather, including a black leather-covered dash panel without wood trim, and leather seats without cloth inserts.
Mr. Del Rio registered the car in Italy prior to having it shipped to the United States. Minor modifications were made to the vehicle upon entering Mr. Del Rio's care, with the work presumably handled by Chinetti Motors, including the replacement of the stock Weber 40 DCN/17 carburetors with 40 DCN/9 units.
The Ferrari was shown at the FCA meet at a Can-Am race at Bridgehampton, New York, in September 1968, and the following year, it was featured in Automobile Quarterly magazine.
The GTB/4 remained with Mr. Del Rio through at least 1975, and by 1982, it was owned by Paul Reisman of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. From him, the car briefly passed to Gary Schaevitz of Katonah, New York, selling it in early 1986 to Dr. Jerome Molitor of Mendham, New Jersey. Dr. Molitor displayed it at the FCA National Meet and Concours at Road America/Elkhart Lake, earning a class award.
British dealer John Collins became its next owner in 1988, selling it in the early 1990s to Japanese collector Takeo Kato. After several years, the car returned to American ownership, being re-acquired in 1998 by prior owner Gary Schaevitz. A full mechanical restoration was performed before it was listed for sale in March 2000. At the time, it had approximately 34,000 miles on the odometer.
At least two additional owners cared for it before it was sold in 2003 to Manuel Del Arroz of Diablo, California, who drove the model's 40th anniversary commemorative Ferrari 275 Factory Tour in Tuscany and Maranello in June 2004. Two months later, it was shown at the annual FCA International Field & Driving Concours held at the Quail Lodge in Carmel, California.
The car entered its current owner's care in June 2007. For the past sixteen years, this Ferrari has resided in climate-controlled storage. It received its Ferrari Classiche Red Book in June 2018, confirming the presence of its matching-numbers engine and gearbox.
More recently, the car was given a sympathetic freshening of the engine by Coppa Bella Motors, and a rebuild and tuning of the carburetors by Mike Pierce.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2024
