2021 Ford GT Navigation
This Ford GT Heritage Edition is a tribute to the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona-winning #98 GT40 Mk II of Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby (Chassis P/1015) and is one of three in this configuration delivered new to Canada. Currently, there are fewer than 785 km (488 miles) on the odometer.
The Ford GT40 program earned victories over Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966, 1967, 1968, and 1969. It won at Kyalami in 1967 and 1968, at Sebring in 1966, 1967 and 1969, as well as Daytona in 1965 and 1966.
Five decades after the GT40 won its first 24 Hours of Le Mans victory, Ford unveiled the new GT in 2015 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Seventeen months after this debut, the model had already won its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The elegantly shaped bodywork of the Ford GT emphasized aerodynamic efficiency and low weight, with flying buttresses that channel air to mechanical components while maximizing downforce. The self-adjusting rear spoiler raises itself to improve aerodynamics, and an adaptive suspension can lower the ride height by a full two inches.
One of the many features borrowed from endurance racing cars was the fixed driver's seat with an adjustable pedal box and steering wheel. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 twin-turbocharged engine delivered 660 horsepower and was paired with a seven-speed Getrag dual-clutch transmission. Zero to sixty mph took less than three seconds and top speed was achieved at 216 mph. Stopping power was courtesy of Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers and 15.5-inch rotors up front.
Demand for the Ford GT supercar was high, and each buyer had to go through a rigid application process for the privilege of buying one. The purpose was to find loyal Ford enthusiasts and ensure they kept their cars for an extended period. Ford slated only 1,350 GT examples through the 2022 model year, with production handled by Multimatic of Markham, Ontario, Canada.
This 1966 Daytona Heritage Edition GT is finished in a Frozen White base coat garnished with contrasting, asymmetrical Race Red elements which feature significantly upon the front fascia, roof, rear wing, and doors. There are #98 roundels, light alloy wheels, gloss carbon fiber exterior trim package, six-point harness anchors, Race Red brake calipers, Heritage steering wheel, titanium tow hook, Heritage Gold wheels, and carbon fiber mirror caps.
This car's original MSRP was $995,300. It is the first of only three 2021 Heritage Edition examples delivered new to Canada and is believed to be the only example with gold wheels and red calipers.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2024
