1920 Marmon Model 34B Navigation
Howard C. Marmon founded the Marmon Motor Car Company of Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1903, and they would produce upmarket automobiles until 1933. The Model 34 was introduced in 1916 and came equipped with a 340 cubic-inch, overhead-valve, inline, six-cylinder engine offering 84 horsepower. The cylinder block and accessory components were formed from aluminum, as were the differential, radiator shell, transmission, and body.
The Marmon Model 34 was built using 'unification construction,' making the body and chassis nearly a single unit. The weight distribution was 50/50 front-to-rear, and the overall weight was 3,295 pounds, meaning it weighed about 30 percent less than similarly-sized competitors. With its low weight and advanced mechanical components, it earned the title of the fastest American production car of the early 1920s.
This 1920 Model 34B Seven-Passenger Touring has been updated for touring under its current ownership, gaining a modern fuel pump, water pump, electric fan, and Zenith carburetor. It has aluminum coachwork, full-size running boards, a 'California' convertible top, a bifurcated seating area without a secondary cowl for rear passengers, and a pair of floor-mounted occasional seats.
This Marmon resided within the province of Ontario for many decades and, during the late 1980s, was acquired by its current caretaker.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2024
