The grandiose model built for the ultra-luxury car market of the 1930s received lavish features to excessive levels and multi-cylinder engines with displacement sizes over 400 cubic inches. Intended for sophisticated lifestyles among country estates or high society, their exclusivity was guaranteed by unobtainable price tags. The competition was fierce as fortunes were lost in the early 1930s during the peak of the Great Depression, and the pool of capable buyers able to afford these machines continued to shrink.
The Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company of Buffalo, New York, was known for its expensive luxury cars, and their 1935 Model 1245 Seven-Passenger Sedan was one of the most expensive cars offered in the United States. It was equipped with a 452 cubic-inch V-12 engine and is today recognized as a CCCA Full Classic automobile.
The original owner of this automobile is not known. It did receive a restoration several decades ago, and a complete engine rebuild occurred in the early 1980s. Around the late 2010s, this Pierce-Arrow joined the Conrad Fletcher collection.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2024
