1956 Chrysler New Yorker Convertible

The New Yorker was Chrysler's top-of-the-line model for 1956, and each example was powered by a 354 cubic-inch Hemi V8 engine delivering 280 horsepower. Period literature called it the 'PowerStyle' Chrylser for its PowerPilot Steering, PowerSmooth Brakes, and the Pushbutton PowerFlite automatic transmission. Production was exclusive, with just 921 examples rolling out of the factories.

This particular example was purchased by its current owner in 2021 from a long-term owner who owned it for nearly three decades. The previous owner commissioned a multi-year, high-quality, body-off restoration and upon completion, sold it to the current owner. At the time of purchase, it was equipped with a rebuilt engine from a 1957 Chrysler 300. The new owner sourced a donor 1956 New Yorker, reportedly in very good condition, to source the correct engine and transmission. The car is now powered by the correct powertrain, with the work being completed in July 2023.

The exterior of the car is red and white with a black convertible top and matching interior. There are period-appropriate wide whitewall tires wrapped around chrome Motor Wheel wire wheels. There is a pushbutton automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats, a Benrus 15-jewel Chryslermatic self-winding steering wheel clock, and a Town & Country radio.
