A total of 1,000 examples of the BMW M4 CSL were built for the global market, with 41 of those sent to Canada and 291 to North America. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of BMW's M division, the M4 CSL was announced in May 2022 and paid homage to the 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL, a car that won the European Touring Car Championship on its first attempt. The moniker 'CSL' stands for 'Competition, Sport, Lightweight' and has become synonymous with the pinnacle of BMW performance. Three BMW models have been given the CSL badge, the first in 1972 was purpose-built as a homologation car for BMW's motorsport program. The Type-E46 M3 of 2004 was the second, and the third was the 2023 M4 CSL, limited to just 1,000 units.
An evolution of the M4, the M4 CSL saw a reduction in weight by 240 pounds, thanks to a generous use of carbon fiber in the roof, trunk lid, center console, hood, and other places. Nearly sixty pounds was shaved by using purpose-built carbon-fiber front seats, and another 46 pounds by removing the rear seats. The titanium muffler saved ten pounds. Mechanical upgrades included carbon-ceramic disc brakes, electromechanical M Servotronic steering with a variable ratio, Adaptive M Suspension with electronically controlled dampers, and finely tuned axle kinematics, dampers, wheel camber, auxiliary springs, and anti-roll bars.
The twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine was tuned for an additional 40 horsepower, bringing output to nearly 550 horsepower in North American specification.
The upgrades helped the BMW M4 CSL set the fastest lap of any series-production BMW at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany with a time of 7:20.2.
This particular BMW M4 CSL is one of 41 built for the Canadian market. It has been fully wrapped in XPEL paint protection film from new and has been driven only 2,560 miles. Some of the original translucent blue protective wrapping installed from the factory on the door-sill guards remains intact, along with CSL seat badges, and left-foot dead pedal.
This BMW left the factory with special-order Frozen Brooklyn Grey paint—a $4,500 option—and Black Alcantara and Full Merino Leather with red and grey contrast stitching and red accents on the interior. There are also factory M floor mats, an item BMW did not usually provide for this model as a weight-saving measure.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2024
