1929 Chrysler Series 75 Dual Cowl Phaeton

1929 Chrysler Series 75 Navigation
Walter Chrysler founded the Chrysler Company on June 6, 1925, following the reorganization of the Maxwell Motor Company. Mr. Chrysler had been hired in the early 1920s to help the ailing Maxwell-Chalmers company. Chalmers automobile production cased in late 1923, and in January 1924, , Walter Chrysler introduced the Chrysler automobile. The Maxwell brand was dropped after the 1925 model year.

Chrysler automobiles were initially equipped with six-cylinder engines; when the Maxwell brand ended, a lower-priced four-cylinder model was introduced to the Chrysler line for the 1926 year. These lower-priced Chryslers were badge-engineered Maxwells.

The Plymouth and DeSoto bands were introduced in 1928, with Plymouth servicing the low-priced end of the market while DeSotos occupied the medium-priced field. All Chryslers now featured six-cylinder engines, with models that included the 65, 75, and Imperial series.

The 1928 Chrysler models were the first of their kind to use hydraulic brakes, Lovejoy shocks, and built-in radiator shutters, and the 248 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine produced 80 horsepower.

This particular 1929 Chrysler Model 75 wears a custom Dual Cowl Phaeton body built by the American coachbuilder Hayes Body Corporation. Styling features of the open four-passenger vehicle included full crown fenders, a narrow profile radiator, vertical hood louvers, and a retractable Haartz cloth top. As the name suggests, there is a secondary cowl and windshield in-between the front and rear occupants.

This Model 75 was given an extensive restoration in the 2000s. It wears a Mexican Turquoise and Caribbean Blue two-tone exterior, a tan leather interior and matching tan soft top. There are dual side-mounted spares, dual Pilot-Ray road lamps, wind wings, a rear-mounted trunk, and chrome wire wheels mounted with wide whitewall tires.

This Chrysler is said to have been originally delivered to Hollywood, California. This Chrysler received a National First Prize in 2000 and Grand National First Prize in 2001.
