2006 Ford GT Navigation
Ford reintroduced the GT40 concept in the early 2000s, celebrating its long and very successful history with a modern and sophisticated interpretation. The GT40's racing legacy consisted of four consecutive overall victories at Le Mans, becoming the most iconic and successful underdog in Le Mans history.
In prototype form, the GT arrived just in time for Ford's centennial celebration in 2003. It borrowed heavily from the design and profile of the GT40, and succeeded in its goal of competing (and surpassing) the supercar establishment. Utilizing the finest in advanced technologies, the Ford GT was constructed on a lightweight aluminum chassis and clothed in superplastic-formed lightweight composite and aluminum body panels. The mid-mounted, hand-built supercharged quad-cam V8 engine produced 550 horsepower and was paired with a six-speed manual transaxle. There was a race-derived braking and suspension system, and it was capable of sprinting from 0-60 mph in about 3.5 seconds. The top speed was achieved at 205 mph before the speed limiter kicks in. When production ceased in 2006, just over 4,000 examples of the Ford GT had been built.
Ford elevated its V8-powered GT for the 2006 model year, introducing the coveted Heritage Paint Livery package. Internally designated as production code 'GL PO,' this $13,000 option gave the GT the iconic Heritage Blue and Heritage Orange paint, paying homage to the colors of the triumphant John Wyer Automotive/Gulf Oil-sponsored GT40s that secured victory at Le Mans in 1968 and 1969. White roundels were applied to the GT's flanks, hood, and decklid.
A total of 343 examples of the Ford GT were given this one-year exclusive option.
This single-owner example was completed in April of 2006 before being delivered through Village Ford of Dearborn, Michigan. It is number 180 of 383 Ford GTs finished in Heritage Blue. It is equipped with optional BBS Lightweight Forged Aluminum Wheels, and the carbon fiber bucket seats, Brembo brakes, and a Helical limited-slip differential were all standard on the Ford GT.
This vehicle currently has 1,238 miles on its odometer.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2024
