1924 Bucciali Type B6 Navigation
The original Bucciali Type B6 created by Alberto Bucciali was built atop a short-chassis Bignan and equipped with a Causan single overhead cam inline six-cylinder engine. When that engine suffered a failed head gasket at its inaugural race outing at the 1925 Montlhéry Grand Prix, a Scap four-cylinder engine was installed for future races. Unfortunately, the Type B6 was wrecked at the 1927 San Sebastián Grand Prix.
The only remaining link to the B6 project was the original Causan six-cylinder engine. Uwe Hucke discovered the ausan engine at Germain Lambert's Museum in France in 1982. Bucciali historian Christian Huet was able to locate an original exhaust for the B6 recreation project. Adied by factory drawings, Mr. Hucke precisely recreated the Bucciali's frame and aluminum body. Work began in 1989 and continued through 2002. Upon completion, Josselyne Bucciali and Mr. Hucke's daughter, Angela, drove the Bucciali in the 1999 French Historic Hill Climb and the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
