1932 Stutz Model DV-32 Navigation
This Stutz DV-32 was shown at the November 1931 Chicago Auto Show, where it captured the attention of Arthur N. Powers from Kankakee, Illinois. Intending to purchase it as a high school graduation present for his daughter, Mr. Powers soon learned that the Stutz was scheduled for further auto shows. Undeterred, Mr. Powers issued a check and waited patiently until the following June for its delivery.
Mr. Power's daughter drove the car while attending Northwestern University and retained it until World War II, at which point she purchased a Ford and gave the Stutz to her father. The car remained in Mr. Power's care through the mid-1950s, eventually being put into storage in Connecticut, where it remained until the early 1970s, when it was brought to California.
The Stutz was later sent to Tom Sparks who disassembled and restored the car, faithfully returning it to its original specification including its original dark burgundy color. The engine was given a simple inspection and fitted with modern shell-type main bearings. The convertible top was recreated in Gray Herringbone Hartz fabric. After the work was completed, the Stutz made its debut at the CCCA Grand Classic in Huntington Beach, California, in 1974, followed by the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 1975. In 2017, it was shown mostly in Southern California and CCCA events. In 2011, the Stutz participated in the 100th Anniversary of Stutz Motor Cars at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
