1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Navigation
This 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB has left-hand drive and is one of 454 twin-cam examples built. It was sold new by Ferrari SpA to Achille Pigoli of Barbagna, Italy, on May 5th, 1966. It has a chassis plate that is marked with a 'GTC' prefix, an erroneous stamping by the factory that was applied to only two other examples (08445 and 08457). It left the factory wearing an Azzurro Metallizzato (106-A-32) exterior over Nero (VM 8500) leather interior.
By September 1967, the Ferrari had 14,857 kilometers on its odometer when it was serviced by the Ferrari factory's Assistenza Clienti department in Modena. On May 8th, 1970, the car was exported to France and subsequently sold to its second owner, Lucien Mette of Bayonne. It received service in Modena in September 1971, and at the time, it had 29,917 kilometers.
By 1976, the car entered the care of its second French owner, Michel Barthet, who would retain the car for 35 years. While in Mr. Barthet's care, the Ferrari was repainted a dark blue over red leather livery in 2004. At the time, it had 63,000 kilometers on the odometer. A more comprehensive restoration was performed by Carrosserie Lecoq in 2010 and completed in 2011. The work included refinishing the Ferrari in gray over a tan leather interior and upgraded with a six Weber carburetor assembly, a roll bar, a trunk-mounted fuel cell, cast light alloy ten-hole wheels, a 275 GTB/C Speciale-style hood scoop, and other competition-inspired modifications.
Mr. Barthet sold the Ferrari to the current caretaker in 2011, the car's third French owner and its fourth owner since new. Under the current ownership, the car has been returned to its original specifications. In November 2015, the Ferrari was awarded a Classiche certification certifying that the serial numbers present on the chassis, engine, transmission, and differential are recognized to be the original stampings matching factory records. After it received its Classiche certification, the Ferrari was the subject of a nut-and-bolt restoration in 2023, refinished in its as-delivered Azzurro Metallizzato over Nero leather colors. The work included repairs to the Scaglietti-constructed steel bodyshell, the realignment of the body on the frame, and the chrome plating and polishing of trim elements. The mechanical restoration was performed by Heritage Motor Cars, including a complete rebuild of the original Colombo V12, reinstallation of the engine and accessories, modification and installation of the wiring harness, as well as a brake and clutch bleeding. Work to the body totaled €143,300 and the mechanical work totaled €84,612.89.
This Ferrari participated in the Tour Auto rally in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2018, the Trofeo Nastro Rosso during the Dix Mille Tours at Paul Richard in 2014, and the Le Mans Classic in 2014, 2016, and 2018.
This 275 GTB is currently equipped with a six-carburetor setup. It retains its original triple twin-choke Weber 40DCZ/6 carburetor assembly which is currently not installed. The odometer currently shows 73,475 kilometers.By Daniel Vaughan | Sep 2024
