1936 Hispano Suiza J-12 Navigation
This Hispano-Suiza J12 wears a berline body created by the renowned Parisian firm Fernandez et Darrin. Its styling is elegant, sensual, and sleek with full-figured, deeply crowned fenders, a low and shapely rounded roofline, and windows cut at the same rake of the windscreen. The vehicle lacks side-mounted spare tires, featuring a wide, polished sweep that defines the beltline, complemented by curvaceous lines that exude both sportiness and elegance.
This Hispano-Suiza was originally delivered on September 30, 1936 to Marcel Bloch, of the aircraft firm Société des Avions Marcel Bloch in Paris, for whom it was registered as 7056-RK5. After World War II, the car reappeared in 1945 in the ownership of Marcel Boussac, who sold it in January 1959 to Ed Wachs of Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Wachs undertook the car's original restoration before selling it in the early 1960s to Walter Weimer of Washington, Pennsylvania. In 1997, the car became the property of Dan Hamilton of Reno, Nevada, and a group-up restoration was soon undertaken by some of the West Coast's finest specialists. Tom Batchelor and Phil Reilly handled the mechanical components, the interior was by Ken Nemanic of Vintage Auto Upholstery, and the bodywork and paint were performed by Kevin Kay Restorations. Upon competition, the car was shown at the 2002 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where it won First in Class.
The car entered the care of its current caretaker in 2008.
