1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Navigation
The Ferrari 275 GTB was offered with several performance options, and the alloy coachwork, six-carburetor intake, and a torque-tube driveshaft are considered the ultimate specification. Only ten examples are so equipped, and this Ferrari Classiche Red Book-certified example is equipped with its matching-numbers six-carburetor V-12 engine.
This Ferrari 275 GTB/6C Alloy by Scaglietti was the eighth car to be completed with the updated torque-tube driveshaft and the second of ten examples fitted with the torque tube that was paired with six carburetors and clothed in lightweight aluminum alloy coachwork. It is a long-nose example that was given instruments in kilometers and trimmed with full leather seats. The exterior Bianco Polo Park paint scheme was complimented by Nero vaumol leather interior. It was sold new via Auto-Becker, the official marque importer in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Chassis number 08343 was completed in March 1966 and then shipped by train to Auto-Becker and sold the following month to its first owner, a resident of Siegberg, a German town near Cologne. It was offered for sale in early 1968, received servicing later that year at the Ferrari factory's Assistenza Clienti in Modena, and then exported to the United States in 1970, entering the care of Avi R. Brand of Woodbury, New York. Mr. Brand sold the 275 in 1978 to FAF Motorcars in Tucker, Georgia, who undertook a full refurbishment, eventually painting the coachwork in Giallo Fly.
Carl Caskey became the car's next caretaker in May 1980, and it would remain in storage while he was overseas. In June 1981, the car was shown at the Ferrari Club of America (FCA) National Meeting and Concours d'Elegance in Asheville, North Carolina.
After twenty-eight years of ownership, the car was sold in January 2008 by Mr. Caskey to a collector based in Los Angeles. The engine was sent to Ferrari specialist Patrick Ottis for a complete rebuild, while the remainder of the car was refurbished by Brian Hoyt. The cosmetics were refinished in the current livery of Blu Scuro paint over Rossa leather.
The refurbishment was completed in late 2011; it was shown at the Cavallino Classic in January 2012 and then at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance several months later where it received a class award. In May 2013, the Ferrari was sold to a Ferrari collector in New Jersey. In August 2013, it was shown at the 50th Annual FCA International Meet and Concours d'Elegance in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, where it received a Platinum Award, the Coppa Bella Macchina Award, and a Coppa GT Award. When it was shown at the 2013 Ferrari Fall Festival in New Jersey, it won Best of Show.
In July 2019, the Ferrari was issued a Ferrari Classiche Red Book and corresponding Certificate of Authenticity.
This Ferrari has its matching-numbers six-carburetor type 213/66 V-12 engine, the factory-appointed alloy coachwork, a correct-type gearbox (number 88-I), Borrani wire wheels, a Blu Scuro exterior, and Rossa interior.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2024
