1996 Porsche 911 GT2 Navigation
This 1996 Porsche is one of 194 street-legal GT2s and one of just 33 specified with the Clubsport package. The latter added a six-point racing harnesses, a battery cut-off switch, a welded roll cage, a full fire-extinguishing system, and bucket seats. Motivation was courtesy of the 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged engine that initially produced 424 horsepower, but was later improved to 444 horsepower.
The 911 GT2, compared to the Type 993 911 Turbo, had its weight reduced by more than 440 pounds, removing the all-wheel-drive components and reverting the chassis to rear-wheel drive. The interior was devoid of many creature comforts, sound-deadening material, and rear seats. The windscreen was made of thinner glass and the doors and hood were made of lightweight aluminum.
The GT2 used the uprated brakes and six-speed manual transaxle from the 911 Turbo, but the bodywork and suspension were thoroughly revised. The bolt-on fender flares housed 18-inch, lightweight Speedline wheels, and combined with the revamped suspension geometry, improved the driving dynamics of the GT2.

This Porsche 911 GT 2 Clubsport has been restored to factory specification and wears a Guards Red exterior with a partial black interior. Production was completed on April 2, 1996, and was delivered new via Porsche Motorsport in Germany to the first owner, a South African native.
After several years of road use in Germany, the original owner brought the Porsche to South Africa, where it was registered and looked after by a dedicated team. The car's second owner, also of South Africa, purchased the car in the mid-2000s. It would remain well-preserved and sparingly driven for the next 15 years, the last six of which were in the United Kingdom.
The current UK-based owner purchased the GT2 in May 2022. At the time, the low mileage Porsche was in excellent condition, yet it was sent to GT Classics of Andover, Hampshire, United Kingdom to coordinate a concours-quality cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment. The car was brought back to its original specification, including rebuilding the numbers-matching engine, as well as a bare-metal respray by Tony Littlejohn of GTR Motorsport Porsche Specialist Ltd. to exacting specifications. Porsche Central Operations PRG of Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom, conducted the final recommissioning. Among the few updates were a Singer-style air-conditioning system, a special protector on the diagonal roll bars, and a protective film applied to the entire exterior, including the windscreen, with a double layer on the most vulnerable areas.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2024
