2005 Porsche Carrera GT Navigation
Porsche entered the world of Formula One in 1991, supplying engines to the Footwork-Arrows team with their newly developed 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V12. Essentially, the combination of two TAG-Turbo V6s from Porsche's McLaren days, the engine was cumbersome and unreliable, prompting Footwork-Arrows to terminate their contract with Porsche midway through the season.
Porsche spent the next three years refining and perfecting the engine, applying advancements in technology and engineering. As Formula One's regulations evolved, Porsche developed a 3.5-liter V10 engine, purely as an educational pursuit. Engine displacement later grew to 5.5 liters and found use in Porsche's LMP2000 sports racing prototype, codenamed Typ 9R3. When LMP2000 met an untimely demise, the V10 engine was temporarily abandoned.
During this time, Porsche was working on the Carrera GT prototype, an ambitious project that was internally referred to as SCM (Super Car Millennium). When discussions turned to engines, Porsche engineers settled on the 5.5-liter V12 originally developed for the 9R3 project. Following the Carrera GT prototype's debut at the 2000 Paris Motor Show, approval for production was quickly granted. Deliveries began in 2003.
The Porsche Carrera GT was the quintessential analog supercar of its era with its carbon fiber monocoque chassis, 5.7-liter V10 engine, and six-speed manual transmission. Devoid of electronic driving aids, the Carrera GT embodied a driver-centric experience. During its short two years of production, just 644 examples were sold through U.S> Porsche dealerships.
This 2005 Porsche Carrera GT was built during the final year of production. It was delivered new to Howard Cooper Porsche of Ann Arbor, Michigan with a purchase date of December 22, 2004, with 15 delivery miles. It was given the XT Bucket Seats and the Carrera GT's official Communication Color of GT Silver Metallic over an Ascot Brown leather interior.
This single-owner vehicle currently has less than 24,000 miles on its odometer. Over the past nineteen years, the Carrera was brought to the selling dealership on twenty occasions. A Major Maintenance was performed in 2009 with a new windshield at 10,739 miles.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2025
