1990 Mercedes-Benz 560 Series Navigation
AMG was founded in 1967 by former Mercedes-Benz engineers, and the company quickly established a reputation for fitting large engines into small engine bays. Exceptional performance was complemented by bold aesthetics, propelling the company to the forefront of the 'tunner' world, and by 1986 they had become a household brand. Around this time, AMG began developing racing engines with Mercedes-Benz, fostering a relationship that would continue to evolve. Eventually, AMG came under the marque's corporate umbrella.
The Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG 6.0 'Wide Body' was one of the most expensive road-going automobiles of its era. It combined Mercedes-Benz's flagship SEC Coupe with an expensive 6.0-liter DOHC engine conversion from AMG, along with their wide-body package. Per the high price tag, only a handful of examples were built.
The 6.0-liter, dual-overhead-cam M117/9 engine (essentially an amalgamation of the earliest M119 block and heads with the latest M117 accessories) produced approximately 375 horsepower.
This Mercedes-Benz initially wore an Arctic White paint scheme when it was delivered to AMG Headquarters in Affalterbach. According to original AMG invoices, this vehicle received $89,923 worth of work that was executed in October 1990 on behalf of a local car dealer.
It is believed that this 560 SEC AMG was repainted to its present Blue-Black shade sometime later in its life. What is known is that the car's original owner had specified that the car's chrome trim be painted black. The 6.0-liter DOHC engine was upgraded and the wide-body conversion package was installed. Additionally, four-piston front brakes were added, along with a full AMG suspension system, exhaust, and 2.47-ratio rear axle with a limited-slip differential. The interior was upgraded with an Anthracite leather cabin, burlwood trim, a 300-km/h AMG speedometer, and a pair of custom-tailored Recaro seats. The Anthracite leather upholstery continues to the door cards and AMG Momo steering wheel. The staggered 17-inch three-piece Aero III wheels by OZ are wrapped with Continental ExtremeContact tires and color-matched Blue-Black faces.
The car's conversion was completed in mid-October 1990, and it was registered by its first owner in the Stuttgart suburb of Esslingen as 'ES RM-20.' In February 2014, it was imported to Ontario, Canada. It was subsequently imported to the United States during April 2015 and has resided in single ownership since that time.
Currently, this AMG Mercedes has fewer than 62,235 km ('38,671 miles) on its odometer.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2025
