1953 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Navigation
The Oldsmobile lineup for 1953 included three convertible options found within the Super Eighty-Eight and the Ninety-Eight, along with the limited production Fiesta. Oldsmobile switched from 6-volt to 12-volt electrical systems in 1953, which resulted in faster and easier starts in all weather conditions and additional operating capacity required by the accessories. Engine output of the Rocket V-8 increased by 5 horsepower, now offering 165 hp, and power brakes were optional for $33.
This Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Convertible is one of 7,521 examples built for 1953, and it was a factory-correct color scheme of black over a white and rear leather interior with a black convertible top. Its power accessories include brakes, steering, windows, driver's seat, and convertible top. Additionally, there is a Super De Luxe signal-seeking radio, and a rare-for-1953 Autronic Eye automatic headlight control system.
