1966 Ferrari 330 GT Navigation
The legendary Ferrari 250 series gave way to the larger-capacity 275 and 330 models, and as production of the four-seater 250 GTE was nearing its end, its replacement was introduced at the company's traditional January press conference in 1964. Dubbed the 330 GT 2+2, the new four-place model wore styling penned by the American-born designer Tom Tjaarda, who was then working for Pininfarina in Torino. Under its bonnet was Ferrari's tipo 209, Colombo-derived V-12 engine, displacing 4.0 liters and developing 300 hp at 6,600 rpm. Specifications included a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, four-wheel disc brakes, and KONI adjustable dampers all around.
The Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 was built in three iterations, with 505 examples being of Series 1 (1963 to 1965). One hundred and twenty examples were Interim models for 1965, and 460 examples were Series II.
The Series I had canted four-headlamp frontal treatment and a four-speed gearbox plus overdrive. The Interim models had the original canted-headlamp design and five-speed gearbox, and the Series II wore a revised two-headlamp design and five-speed gearbox.
This particular Ferrari is a Series II. It is an original U.S model that was completed on June 18th of 1966, and equipped with optional power window lifts and air conditioning. It wore an Ivory exterior with Cloud Blue leather upholstery and rode on wire-spoke wheels.
This Ferrari was imported to the United States by Luigi Chinetti Motors Inc. The car's first owner remains unknown; by July 1970, it was owned by H. Michael Balch of California. A succession of several California owners followed over the next two decades.
By 1986, this Ferrari wore a black exterior finish over red upholstery. From 1991 to 2003, the 2+2 resided in Japan with a noted classic-car collector. In February 2003, the vehicle returned to the United States and was purchased by Jim Unsworth of Arizona. In August 2008, the car was sold to Adam Carolla; in 2017, it was purchased by its current caretaker.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2025
