In 1925, Albert Rich, of Cambridge, NY, designed and ordered a special auto launch wagon from the C. Cretors Company of Chicago. This example, of which only two were built, is mounted on a Ford Model TT chassis. A Cretors steam engine and LP gas powers its popcorn poppers, grill, peanut roasters, hot dog steamer, and bun warmer. The wagon was owned by the same family from 1925 until 2007. Albert Rich traveled the fair circuit through Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and most of Eastern New York. For many years, he actually drove the Model TT (despite its 45 mph top speed) from New York to Florida, to work the winter fair circuit. Last operated by Albert Rich's daughter, Dorothy, in 1998, it was a feature in the New York - New England states, making an indelible impression on kids of all ages. In 2007, nicely preserved but basically unrestored, the wagon was purchased from Dorothy's estate by a private group, which generously donated it to the Saratoga Automobile Museum. It will be operated at events throughout the summers, cheerily fulfilling Dorothy's legacy and bringing joy to all who see it.
