The Porsche 911 entered into production in 1964. A short time later, in 1973, the Carrera RS and RSR models were introduced. These were the result of nearly ten years of improvements, modification, and fine-tuning. They utilized a 911S mechanical platform and extended that idea even further. The RS were homologation specials for racing versions and are considered the best performing 911S to date. Power was from either a 2.7- or 2.8-liter engine and very visible graphics and bodywork help distinguish these from other 911 models.
This 1969 Porsche 911 RS Carrera Coupe Recreation is a California car that has been treated to a professional restoration. The recreation was done by using many OEM and period parts and fabricating others. The interior features a Blaupunkt AM/FM/CD stereo and newly reupholstered houndstooth seats. Other enhancements include a 4.429:1 final drive ratio differential and factory Lobro axle shafts with Rzeppa constant velocity joints. Power is from a horizontally-opposed six-cylinder engine that displaces 1,991cc, breathes through Webber carburetors, and produces 130 horsepower. Four-wheel disc brakes and a four-speed manual synchromesh gearbox are other performance features found on this vehicle.
In 2008 this car was brought to the Automobiles of Amelia presented by RM Auctions where it had an estimated value of $60,000 - $70,000. Interest was low and bidding reflected; a high bid of $38,500 was not enough to satisfy the reserve and the lot was left unsold.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2008
