1933 Packard 1006 Twelve Sedan

Although the worst effects of the Depression were being felt in 1933, Packard offered the option of many standard and custom bodies. Both 8- and 12- cylinder engines were available. The car shown is an extraordinary example of a custom body by Fernandez and Darrin of Paris and has a 12-cylinder engine. It was awarded its Senior status by the AACA at Hershey. It won first prize at the Concours d'Elegance in New York in 1978 and awards from Pebble Beach and Amelia Island.

This is the only known Packard with Fernandez & Darrin Coachwork. Fernandez & Darrin was a collaboration between Howard 'Dutch' Darrin and J. Fernandez, a wealthy, Argentione-born Parisian banker (the company was located in Paris). The company was in business from 1932-37. The Parisian Carrosserie Fernandez et Darrin was founded in late Darrin at a concours near Paris. Fernandez, a wealthy banker and furniture maker who occasionally built auto bodies, had a showroom on the Champs-Elysees, and after his partnership with Darrin was announced people came from all over the world to have their cars finished by the new coachbuilding firm.

This Packard Twelve was built for US Ambassador and Senator Dwight Morrow and has enjoyed an interesting life - it was even at one time during his ownership used as a hearse.
