1964 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 Convertible

For an additional $291, the basic Catalina hardtop coupe or convertible would be transformed into the 2+2 with a special bucket-seat interior with center console, plus exterior 2+2 badges. Optional equipment included a four-speed manual or Hydra-Matic at the same price. The engines ranged from 276 through 370 horsepower.

There were only 27,998 customers who chose the 2+2 package in 1964. This example has been driven a mere 21,300 miles since new. It retains its original white vinyl top and black 2+2 interior. The exterior color is Grenadier Red. Under the bonnet is a 389 cubic-inch V8 engine rated at 283 horsepower and mated to a four-speed manual gearbox.

This car was built in May of 1964; it is fitted with power steering, power brakes, dual exhausts and a Safe-T-Track limited slip differential. Other options include a radio, backup lights, 2-speed electric windshield wipers and washers, electric clock, and console-mounted Pontiac tachometer. There is a utility lamp that extends from the luggage compartment on a 17-foot-long color.

This car was invoiced to a dealer in the Cleveland region and later sold to its first owner, who put just 18,000 miles on it in 24 years. The second owner put only 3,000 miles on the car during a 19-year period. In 2007, it was brought to the Gooding & Company Auction held in Pebble Beach, California where it was estimated to sell for $70,000 - $90,000. It was offered without reserve and sold for $83,600 including buyer's premium.

In 2010, this Catalina was offered for sale at the Gooding & Company auction held in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was estimated to sell for $70,000 - $80,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the lot had been sold for the sum of $37,400, including buyer's premium.
