1955 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Two-Door Holiday Hardtop

The Oldsmobile was mildly reworked for 1955, and set an all-time sales record - model year production soared to 583,179 units. The five-millionth Olds was built during the 1955 season.

Oldsmobile's reputation for performance was firmly established by the successful OHV 'Rocket' V8 introduced just six years earlier. Together with Hydra-Matic drive, the 88 Series was a potent package. The top-of-the-line model was the Ninety-Eight, and the pillarless Holiday Deluxe Coupe was the most prestigious closed-style offered.

This top-of-the-line 98 Holiday Deluxe Coupe was purchased new by a West Virginia school teacher and saw very limited use. In fact, the son of the selling dealer recalls that three years passed while the car sat parked in the owners garage before the owners called the dealer, who dispatched the son, to teach her how to start the car.

The 98 is also very unique with its original mono-tone exterior paint scheme. Most 1955 Oldsmobile's were painted in two-tone. The car was restored in 1998, with only 21,000 miles on the odometer.
