For 1987, Porsche made just 94 examples of the slant nose Turbo Carrera. Powered by a 3.3-liter flat six-cylinder engine, it produced 282 horsepower. The Slantnose Porsche was finally offered by the company for 1986, and was also known as the Flachbau in German. The designation in the United Kingdom was Turbo SE.
Due to the extreme cost of the vehicle (selling for nearly double the base model), the car was produced in limited numbers.
Along with upgrades to the engine, the cars were given body panels in similar design to the 935 race cars. This conversion meant the rocker panels were extended and wider rear flares with scooped vents were added. In the front were flip-up headlights and functional louvers.
During the production lifespan of the Flachbau, over 800 examples were sold worldwide.
