This 1964 Chevy Corvette was purchased new by SCCA racer Bill Jobe in 1964. Bill was living in Dallas at the time and to cope with the head he ordered the car in white with red interior. The car was raced by Jobe on the weekends at local autocross events, and he won the Texas regional championship for 5 consecutive years.
In 1969, Bill decided to move up to the SCCA B-Production division. To be competitive, he extensively modified the car, including fitted a 331 cubic-inch fuel injected engine that was built by engine builders Traco engineering. Over the 1970 and 1971 season the car was campaigned extensively. In 26 races, Bill drove the car to fifteen 1st Place, and seven 2nd place finishes. During those 26 races, Bill never finished lower than 5th place in his Corvette. These results earned him the Southeast divisional championship in 1971 and 1972.
The current caretaker purchased the car in 2007, at the time it had been laid up for two decades. A full frame off restoration soon followed. The car was brought back the way it raced at Road Atlanta in 1972.
The Traco built engine is a 331 cubic-inch overhead valve unit with Traco upgraded Rochester fuel injection. It produces 400 horsepower and there are J56 disc brakes, an independent suspension, and a four-speed manual transmission.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2018
