Maserati Tipo 60 Birdcage with chassis number 2468 was owned by Briggs Cunningham and driven by noted racers such as Dick Thompson and Walt Hansgen. Its first race was at Elkhart Lake where it was driven by Hansgen to a 4th place finish. It competed at Laguna Seca in October, again driven by Hansgen. The following year it raced at the 12 Hours of Sebring, driven by Hansgen and Cunningham, and finished 2nd in Class and 18th overall.
Mid-way through 1961 its rear was modified and it was painted white with two blue stripes. In this livery, it was brought to the 24 Hours of LeMans where it was driven by Cunningham and Bill Kimberly. It finished in a very impressive 8th overall.
The car later had further modifications to its tail, displayed in the Cunningham Museum, and raced at the Monterey Historic Races.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2010
