1966 Chevrolet Impala Series Navigation
The Chevrolet Impala, introduced in 1958, became one of the most popular and recognized nameplates in history, and America's best-selling automobile. It was called the 'prestige car within the reach of the average American citizen by Chevrolet Chief Engineer Ed Cole.
In the 1960's, the Chevrolet Impala was America's best-selling car by far. Impala's appeal was far-reaching. It could be a sensible family sedan or spacious wagon, a sporty hardtop, a striking convertible or a storming, big-block Super Sport.
In 1966, the Impala could be purchased as a 2-door hardtop, a 4-door sedan or a sporty convertible. A myriad of options meant your Impala could provide basic transportation, or allow you to arrive in style.
The clean, athletic shape of this 1966 Impala SS Convertible exemplifies GM design excellence in an era when style really mattered. The Super Sport series, available as a hardtop coupe as well as convertible, featured an all-vinyl bucket seat interior, center console and distinctive 'SS' style touches.
With performance being a high priority in 1966. Chevrolet more than the usual power accessories, wheel trim, and chrome dress up. One could check some boxes on the option sheet to create a truly unique and even high-horsepower full-size performance car. With the newly restyled Chevelle in the lineup, attention may have been focused on Chevrolet's midsize offerings, but a select few chose to ride in comfort in the larger car.
This Marina Blue Super Sport convertible, a stunning mix of big-car luxury and big-block muscle, was restored by the current owner. Performance options include the 390 horsepower version of the new-for-1966 427 cubic-inch 'Turbo-Jet' V8, four-speed manual transmission, auxiliary gauge package and Positraction. Luxury options include the rare wood-grain steering wheel, air conditioning, power windows, power seat, cruise control, F41 sport suspension and a console-mounted AM/FM Multiplex stereo. To make things even better, the original owner opted for the 4-speed manual transmission with bucket seats and a center console.
