In 1957, the Nash Ambassador was restyled with the addition of quad headlights, the first for any American car, a large oval grille, fender top parking lights, and spear-like side trim. There were new front fenders, lower roofline, and full wheel cut-outs. Mounted under the bonnet was a V8 engine that displaced 327 cubic-inches and produced 255 horsepower, thanks in-part to the Carter four-barrel carburetors. There was an automatic transmission, independent front suspension, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.
This example is a Country Club Two-Door Hardtop model that featured lots of chrome and was available in either two- or three-toning. The rear seat featured Nash's double width, folding center armrest. The interior colors matched the exterior colors.
This example has been treated to a complete restoration and finished in black and red paint scheme. It is equipped with factory air conditioning, power steering, power windows, a continental kit and power antenna. The seats even fold into a bed.
There were only 997 examples of the Country Club two-door hardtop produced in the marque's final year of production. In 2008 this example was brought to RM Auctions' Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook. It was estimated to sell for $30,000-$40,000 and offered without reserve. A high bid of $30,250 including buyer's premium was enough to secure new ownership. The lot was sold.By Daniel Vaughan | Sep 2008
