1940 Cadillac Series Sixty Special Sedan

The Cadillac Series Sixty Special was introduced in 1938 and brought many styling concepts that would be used in the Cadillac lineup in the years to come. The body featured a convertible-style steel top with a thin roof section and a notched back. There were no running boards, thanks to the 'double dropped' frame design, allowing the car's floor to be placed at the normal running board height.

For 1940, the Sixty Specials were slightly revised with the most noticeable change being the art deco inspired grille. 1940 was the year that production changed from Fisher to Fleetwood for Sixty Special body production.

This example wears an older re-paint job that shows some paint chips and cracks in modern times. It is in good condition and rides on painted steel wheels with full chrome wheel covers and wide whitewall tires. The interior has gray corduroy upholstery, a 'banjo' type steering wheel, an optional pushbutton-operated AM radio, and a dash-mounted clock. Under the hood is a 346 cubic-inch V8 engine that offers 135 horsepower.

In 2008 this 1940 Cadillac Sixty Special Sedan was brought to RM Auctions 'Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook' where it was estimated to sell for $25,000-$35,000 and offered without reserve. Those estimates were proven nearly accurate as a high bid of $23,100, including buyer's premium, was enough to secure new ownership.
