1958 Oldsmobile Super Eighty-Eight Convertible

For 1958, Cadillac offered a newly re-styled line of vehicles which featured a dramatic use of chrome trim on the sides which accented the considerable length. Oldsmobile's entry-level vehicle was the Dynamic 88, with the Super 88 serving as their mid-range vehicle. At the top of the heap was the 98. The Super 88 came in five different bodystyles including a station wagon, a four-door sedan, a Holiday four-door hardtop, a two-door Holiday hardtop coupe, and a two-door convertible. Mounted under their bonnets were a 371 cubic-inch V8 that offered an impressive 305 horsepower. This was the standard engine for both the Super 88 and 98 lines, and was optional on the Dynmaic 88 in 1958. The standard transmission was a three-speed manual unit on all 88 and 98 series cars with a 'Jetaway' Hydra-Matic automatic unit being optional.

Total sales for 1958 was nearly 311,000 units making them fourth overall in industry ranking.

This 1958 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible is one of less than 4,000 examples produced. It has traveled less than 50,000 miles since new. It is painted in light blue paint on its exterior and white and light blue in the interior. It rides on wide whitewall tires, and painted steel wheels.

In 2008, this car was brought to the 2nd Annual Vintage Motor Cars of Hershey presented by RM Auctions where it was estimated to sell for $50,000-$60,000. Bidding reached $75,900, exceeding expectations, and finding new ownership. The lot was sold.
