1950 Morgan F-Series Navigation
The history of the Morgan Company dates back to 1909 when it was founded by H.F.S. Morgan. Currently, the company still exists and employs around 160 workers. These 'cycle-car' three-wheeled vehicles were not subject to British taxes levied on more conventional four-wheeled cars. Morgan's work eventually led to several patents, and by the 1911 Olympia Motor Show, Morgan displayed both single and twin-cylinder versions of his cycle-car.
The F-Series three-wheeler was produced from 1932 through 1952. The F-4 was relatively roomy offering 2+2 seating accommodations. Most of the F-4 models were powered by Ford Model Y engines.
This 1950 Morgan F Super Tricycle is painted in red with black fenders and cream-colored wire wheels and a black cloth top. It has a folding windshield and dual 'Brooklands' windscreens. There is a luggage rack, a spare tire faired into the rear bodywork, and external exhaust pipes. The interior features black leather upholstery and a 'banjo' style steering wheel.
In 2008, this vehicle was brought to the 2nd Annual Vintage Motor Cars of Hershey presented by RM Auctions where it was estimated to sell for $25,000-$35,000. It was offered without reserve. Those estimates were proven accurate with a high bid of $26,400 including buyer's premium. The lot was sold.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2020
