1964 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster Racer / 40867S104780 Chassis Information

Roadster
Chassis Num: 40867S104780
The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was introduced in 1963. The vehicles were able to be driven from the showroom and straight to the track. Many components of the Corvette could be easily upgraded such as the engine, suspension, and brakes. The limited slip Positraction differential had a wide range of available ratios which made them suitable for any road course.

This 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster Race Car is a period correct SVRA Certified Historic Race Car medallion number 6-0189. It was offered for sale at the 2006 RM Auction in Monterey, CA where it was expected to sell between $90,000-$120,000. It was offered without reserve.

This is one of two Corvettes that was sponsored by Joe Van Horn Chevrolet, in Plymouth, Wisconsin and campaigned by a three man team. The primary driver of the number 5 vehicle was Jeff Miller. It was unbeaten in SCCA Midwestern Regional Competition. In 1970 and 1971 it won the B/Production class at the SCCA Nationals at Road America. During those years it finished second in the Nationals at Donnybrooke.

The vehicle has undergone a restoration since new. It was sold to Ken Searles of Ohio who raced the vehicle in historic competition such as SVRA, VDCA, VSCDA, and others.

The vehicle is powered by a 331 cubic-inch V8 engine with Rochester fuel injection, ported and polished heads, big journal crank, and roller rockers. Power is rated at 485 horsepower. It has a close-ratio M22 'Rock Crusher' four-speed manual transmission and heavy duty J-56 disc brakes. There is an 18 gallon fuel cell and lightweight PS two-piece wheels.

At auction the vehicle was sold for $60,500 which was below the estimated value. The new owner got a bargain.
