1937 Rolls-Royce 25/30HP Navigation
Although this car was built in 1937, it was not registered until July 1945, due chiefly to the war in Europe. The 25/30 was built between 1936 and 1938. It was powered by a 4257cc, inline six-cylinder engine with a 6:1 compression ratio.
In 1925 J. Gurney Nutting of Chelsea made the first of what would become one of the outstanding bodies installed on the Rolls-Royce chassis - the Sedanca de Ville (or town car). Eventually, Gurney Nutting coachwork became a favorite of several notable residents of Windsor Castle.
The four-wheel brake system, receives assistance from a mechanical servo under license from Hispano-Suiza. It has rigid front and rear ales suspended by half elliptic springs with hydraulic dampers.
After this example was built, it was delivered as stock to the London Rolls-Royce dealer, H.R. Owner, in the spring of 1938. Its first owner was Mr. F. Roberts of Manchester who acquired it in 1945. Later British owners were Richard Charles Bunn of Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, who acquired the car in 1962, and Walter Brian Carter of Huntingdon, who purchased it four years later.
The current owners acquired it from Mr. Carter in 1968 and brought it to the United States. It has been in the same family ownership for over half a century.
This Rolls-Royce was fully restored in the 1980s and given a correct electric rear-window blind. After the work was finished it was brought on the show circuit, winning the Hooper Trophy from the Rolls-Royce Owners' Club and the Formal Town Car award at the CCCA Museum's Formal Car Experience in 1990. Since then, it has continued to be shown and driven extensively on tours and private journeys all over the Midwest.
