The three-wheeled Morgan or 'trike,' as it is also known, was built in response to the British tax on four-wheeled automobiles. Morgan skirted the rules by building a car with three wheels instead of four and installing a motorcycle engine in front to drive the rear wheel.
The idea worked and the three-wheel Morgan became a popular mode of transportation. Several different body styles were available, including the barrel back or 'cork in the bottle' version displayed here.
Two of the most popular motors used in the Super Sports roadsters were the JAP and the Matchless versions; the latter is installed in this Morgan.
