Ferrari produced 78 examples of the 212 Inter models between 1951 and 1953. Twenty-six of the final twenty-nine cars were given the EU chassis designation as 'Europas.' This particular example is a late-production 212 and was the third of 11 coupes built by Pinin Farina. It was also the 15th from the last car built on the 212 platform. It was completed in late 1952 and used by the factory for exhibition. It was on the factory stand at the Turin Motor Show in April of 1953 and then sold to its first private owner, Paris resident Pierre Guilherme. The car's next owner was Joseph Cattaneo's garage who acquired it in April of 1958. Frank Butler, an American living in Paris, was the next owner who had the car refinsihed in Rosso. In 1961, it was sold to Ed Garus, who imported it to the United States. The next owner, Mitchell Cahn of Bellerose, New York, purchased it in 1965 and kept it for nearly a decade, selling it in 1974 to Alvin Meyer of Port Washington.
The Motor Classic Corporation of White Plains, New York, purchased the car in 1981 and refinished it in silver over red leather. Anothony Wang was the next owner, followed by Thomas Davis of Manalapan, Florida who purchased it in 1974. During this time, the car was repainted black.
Larry Simon purchased it in 1990 and commissioned a restoration by Wayne Obry. An opportunity arose and Obry was able to purchase the car from Mr. Simon and his Motion Products of Neenah, Wisconsin completed the restoration between 1991 and 1993. Upon completion, it was shown at the 1993 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where it reportedly became the first Ferrari to score a perfect 100 point score at the event. It was then shown at various FCA meets, including the 3rd Annual Cavallino Classic in February of 1994, where it won the Cavallino Cup for Best in Show, as well as the Excellence Cup for best restoration.
