1962 Citroen 2CV Sahara 4x4 Sedan

This Citroën 2CV is a very special and unique car. It is a Sahara 4x4 model complete with two engines and drive train. It is an off-road utility car of the versatile 2CV.

There is a second 2CV power train adapted to the rear end of the vehicle. The development work was done by Panhard and taken over by Citroen. There are two clutches which operate from a single hydraulic supply and the transmissions are controlled through a single lever. The engines displace 425cc are operated separately, which allows the driver to turn off one to increase economy. There are larger tires and an modified suspension. In total, there 694 examples built and were used by the Spanish police for rescue work in the Alps.

This example was originally owned by an Israeli oil company. It was later found in solid condition but without its engines. A second Sahara was located and its engines were transplanted into this shell. The restoration process took about three years and when it was done, it was put through its paces by a British Magazine called Classic Cars.

In 2008, this 4x4 vehicle was offered for sale at the 'Quail Lodge, A Sale of Exceptional Motorcars and Automobilia' presented by Bonhams Auction. The lot was sold for $93,600 inclusive of buyer's premium.
