This Porsche Type 934/5 Competition Coupe, originally finished in Light Yellow livery, is the nineteenth example produced. Its first owner was a Swiss collector/dealer named Angelo Pallavincini who took ownership of the yellow racer in 1976. It was raced during the 1976 season, campaigned under the Corse Pallvano banner, in five European GT events, club races, and hill climbs. During the 1977 season, it was raced in club events with much success. With the help of his co-driver Bernhard, the car would end the 1978 season as World Championship of Makes Group 4 Champion. They captured Top 10 finishes at major events including the six-hour endurance races at Dijon, Misano, Silverstone, and Vallelunga.
In 1979, the car was brought to the 12 Hours of Daytona where it was driven by Pallavicini and Werner Frank to a 10th overall finish in the GTO category. After the race, the car was sold to Werner Frank of Chicago.
Frank continued the cars racing resume for several years, often sharing driving duties with Canadian Porsche racer Rudy Bartling. It raced primarily in IMSA events, though it did race in major international endurance races including the 1980 Daytona and Sebring races, and in 1981 at Watkins Glen and Road America.
In 1983, the car was sold to Rick Borlase of Las Vegas. Mr. Borlase raced '0162' in IMSA events through 1986. In 1986, an impressive 11th overall and 5th in the GTO category was achieved at the Sebring 12-Hours, where it was driven by Borlase, Michael Hammond, and Jim Torres.
In 1988, the car was sold to Sid Ho of Switzerland. Sid Ho never took delivery of the car and it remained in the United States. Jim Torres purchased the car in 1990. While in Torres care, the car was restored at his shop at Burbank Coachworks. It was stripped to the bare tub and refinished in the correct Light Yellow livery. Many of the original 1976 components were used during the build. After the comprehensive restoration was finished, it was sold to Carlos Cortez in 1997. In 1999, the car was purchased at a Monterey Auction by Stuart Coleman. A year later, the car was sold to its current owner.
In 2008, the car was offered for sale at the 'Quail Lodge, A Sale of Exceptional Motorcars and Automobilia' presented by Bonhams Auction. It was estimated to sell for $525,000 - 600,000 but left the auction unsold. In 2009, it was acquired from Monte Shelton by the current owner.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2019
