The 365 GTC/4 was introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in 1971. It was meant as a replacement for the 365 GT 2+2.
The Ferrari 365 GTC was phased out in 1969 which meant the company was left without a luxury two-seat coupe in its lineup. Those clients who were seeking a luxurious grand touring car were given the 365 GTC/4 in March of 1971. It was based on the Daytona and borrowed features from the 365 GTC and 2+2, the 365 GTC/4. The chassis was basically a Daytona, stretched 100mm with a five-speed transmission mounted more conventionally, directly to the engine. The self-leveling rear suspension was from the C/4 2+2. The car was luxuriously equipped and came with a ZF power steering, a radio, and air conditioning.
This example is a left-hand-drive U.S version that is painted in factory color of Rosso Cherry with a beige interior. The car was sold new to Bill Harrah's Modern Classic Motors dealership in Reno, Nevada before being owned from 1972 to 1985 by Ron Tonkin in Portland, Oregon. It was advertised for sale in 1985 by Tonkin as having 15,000 miles. Richard Moland of the Petersen Automobile Museum in Los Angeles acquired the car and later sold it to its present owner.
The car currently has 19,900 miles and remains in excellent condition. There is air conditioning, chrome wire spoke wheels, and it is one of 500 examples produced between 1971 and 1972.
In 2008, this vehicle was offered for sale at the 'Sports & Classics in Monterey' presented by RM Auctions where it was estimated to sell for $75,000 - $100,000. It was offered without reserve and sold for $156,750.By Daniel Vaughan | Mar 2009
