The Gemini MK2 was originally built in 1959 as the Moorland. Graham Warner (of the famous Chequered Flag Company) bought the company and renamed it after his birth sign. The debut for the Gemini was the 1959 Boxing Day Race at Brands Hatch with Jim Clark driving.
Although the majority (exactly 24) of the 30 MK2s built were exported to the United States, they were also regularly raced in England with Geoff Duke (of motorcycle fame), Mike Beuttler, and the boss Graham Warner.
Four of the 30 cars built were fitted with Ford engines, while the remaining 26 were fitted with BMC engines. Series number 1025 is one of the four cars originally fitted with the Ford engine, and one of the two cars sent to the United States in early 1960. The original owner who purchased series 1025 from the factory was Mr. David Schiff of New York. He raced the car at Thompson, Vineland, and Lime Rock during the 1960 season.
The car was eventually purchased by Mr. Frank Gallo and raced extensively for more than 10 years at Watkins Glen, NY; Mosport, Canada; Thompson, CT; Three Rivers, Canada; Bridge Hampton, LI; Lime Rock and other tracks in the Eastern States.
In early 2008, after a period of time during which the car was kept parked, the car was purchased by Mr. Ugo Piccagli. It was restored to vintage racing requirements and prepared for a new season.
The two original fuel tanks have been modified with racing fuel cells and installed in the original location. The 1000cc engine has been freshened up, but not modified, and still has the original glass ball crank. A proper fire extinguisher has been installed, as well as a transponder.
The following history was provided by its current caretaker - Colin McKay. Much thanks!
In 2015 chassis 1025 was repatriated to England and bought by Colin McKay who, following a complete rebuild to period spec, has raced it throughout the UK as well as undertaken two tours of New Zealand. As of 2024 it is believed to be the only one of the original four Ford-engined Gemini Mk2's still racing.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2009
