By 1967 the Lola T70 was the privateer's weapon of choice after John Surtees won the inaugural Can-Am championship with his red T70 in 1966 claiming victory in half of the championship races.
In 1966 Mark Donohue scored Penske's first Can-Am victory at Mosport in a Sunoco T70. Penske Racing's second Lola T70 was entered in the 1967 Can-Am Championship for George Follmer. Follmer raced it to a third at Bridgehampton, 6th at Mosport, 3rd at Laguna Seca and a 6th at Riverside. Follmer tied for sixth in the 1967 Can-Am title chase.
The car is powered by a 350 c.i. small-block Chevy V-8 with side-draft Weber 58 DC03 carburetors and transmits power through a 5-speed Hewland G-600 transaxle.
