1953 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Navigation
In 1953, Oldsmobile produced over 330,000 vehicles placing it sixth place overall in the annual sales race. That year, they captured nine NASCAR victories, including a new speed record at Daytona with a 113.38 mile-per-hour run in the flying mile with an Oldsmobile 88.
This Oldsmobile 98 Convertible has several notable features including driver's side spotlight, period correct wide whitewall tires and chrome-plated wire wheel covers. The interior has leather upholstery and a padded upper dash panel with a silver painted lower half. There are power brakes, power windows, an AM radio, Autronic Eye, headlight dimmer and an electric clock.
Under the bonnet is a 'Rocket' overhead valve V8 engine that displaces 303 cubic-inches and produces 165 horsepower. There is a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and power-assisted four-wheel drum brakes.
In 2009, this Ninety-Eight Convertible was offered for sale at the Automobiles of Amelia Island Auction presented by RM Auctions. It was estimated to sell for $65,000-$85,000.
