1927 Hudson Speed Six Navigation
From 1916 through 1929, Hudson produced the Super Six. This example was built in Australia by Wolfgang Rebien. It was constructed in the early 1990s in the style of Vanden Plas. The chassis is a restored and modified 1927 Hudson unit, and it houses an engine that has been moved back ten inches to improve weight distribution. There is a hydraulic braking system of the Perrot-type by Bendix, and there are 21-inch wire wheels with peg-drive and center lock nuts.
The modified 1927 Hudson chassis supports a beautiful Vanden Plas style tourer body, reminiscent of sporting Bentley and Stutz cars. The handmade aluminum panels rest on the Brazilian Mahogany framework. The entire construction utilizes the absolute finest materials available. It is believed that this vehicle is the only supercharged Hudson of its era in the world today.
The interior features an engine-turned aluminum dashboard with mahogany trim. The convertible top-bows are made of American cherry. There is a saddle-colored Connolly hide interior.
The most appealing aspect of this vehicle is the blower mounted on the front. There is a three-speed manual gearbox with new gears to alter the ratios.
At the 2002 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, this Hudson Sports Tourer was awarded the Chairman's Award. In 2009, it was offered for sale at the Automobiles of Amelia Island auction presented by RM Auctions. The car was estimated to sell for $140,000 - $180,000. The lot was sold for a high bid of $198,000, including the buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Sep 2009
