2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR Navigation
The works of Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, and Alexander Calder have a common thread in motorsports: each of these famous artists has designed an 'art car' to compete in the 24 Heures du Mans, the annual 24-hour sports car test of endurance held in Le Mans, Franc.e
Herve Poulain, an auctioneer and gentleman racing driver from France, is credited for the art car concept. In 1975, his friend, American artist Alexander Calder, was the first to transform a sports car into a piece of art: Poulain's personal BMW 3.0 CSL. Once the Calder-designed BMW appeared, the concept of automobiles as mobile canvases for expression captured the imagination of other famous artists of the era and the Le Mans art car tradition began.
For their third Le Mans, California-based Flying Lizard Motorsports set out to create something special for the 2007 24 Heures du Mans. The team selected Troy Lee, a well-known California based motorsports artist, to create a custom livery for the Flying Lizard No. 80 Porsche. The design was unveiled for the first time at Scrutineering in the historic town of Le Mans to the cheers of thousands of sports car fans.
The Troy Lee-designed livery ran only once at the 2007 24 Heures du Mans. For the balance of the American Le Mans Series season, chassis number 913 was campaigned as the number 45 Flying Lizard Porsche in its distinctive red and silver livery.
This car is powered by a flat-six cylinder boxer engine that is capable of producing 485 horsepower and 435 NM of torque. There is a six-speed sequential transmission and steel vented and cross-drilled discs.
- Clocked the fastest GT2 race lap at the 2007 24 Heures du Mans.
- Fought to the finish with the number 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari at the 2007 Mobile 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring: the famous last lap battle resulted in the closest finish in the history of the race. This battle has come to be a fan favorite with over 100,000 views on YouTube.
Won three ALMS races in 2007: New England Grand Prix at Lime Rock; Sports Car Challenge of Mid Ohio; and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
