1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 KR Coupe

The Shelby Mustang GT500KR or 'King of the Road' was fitted with a 428 cubic-inch Cobra-Jet engine. It was listed by the factory at 335 horsepower, but in reality it was closer to 400 horsepower.

This example is one of only 83 GT500KRs original painted Candy Apple Red, one of only seven with saddle interior, and one of only four with factory A/C with saddle interior. It has been given a non-expense spared Concours quality full rotisserie restoration and is in excellent condition. It has a four-speed gearbox, front disc and rear drum brakes, and a wheelbase that measures 108-inches. The engine has aluminum heads and a factory PI intake manifold resulting in a boost in horsepower to approximately 500 (dyno). During the restoration it was converted to a four-speed using only fully rebuilt date coded factory parts. The restoration work was completed on March 5th, 2009 and has since only traveled test miles. It has '6FA' Saddle interior, 3.00 rear axle, visibility group, sport deck rear seat, power steering, tilt away steering wheel, air conditioning, AM radio, interior decor group, tinted glass, tachometer, and trip odometer. It has the correct fiberglass nose panels, fiberglass hood with functional scoops and air extraction vents, spoiler, body-side intakes, and sequential turn signal lights. It has the correct roll bar with built in inertia-reel shoulder harness.

In 2009, this GT500KR Fastback Coupe was offered for sale at the Houston Classic Auction in Seabrook, Texas presented by Worldwide Auctioneers. It was estimated to sell for $135,000 - $175,000. Bidding reached $100,000 but was not enough to satisfy the car's reserve. The lot was left unsold.
