1954 Chevrolet Corvette Design Study Roadster

This 1954 Chevrolet Corvette design study was created with several unique features to both the interior and the exterior. The most visually dramatic outward feature is the headlights which have a fin down the center of each light. The other exterior modification is the custom paint job which was not a standard 1954 color. The interior of the car has several design ideas including the steering wheel, center armrest with a storage compartment, special upholstery, and instrumentation.

It is a modified production concept car that was originally sold to Roger Crispell, a studio Chief at GM styling. It was twice used as a design study project. Because of Mr. Crispells position, he was able to have Shop Order #2536 assigned to the car on April 4, 1955 to present new interior design concepts to management and included a two-toned alligator interior, a 1955 convertible top and deck lid, and special 'Shark fin' headlight treatment. Again in 1956 (February 11th), a Shop Order, #10029, was issued and the Corvette was repainted in a goldish-silver hue that Mr. Crispell created and named 'Sahara Silver.' The interior was redone in black and silver and the top was replaced with black canvas. Other styling enhancements included a machined gauge bezel, a prototype three-spoke steering wheel, and a center armrest storage console.

The car was given a restoration that was completed by Werner Meier at MasterWorks Automotive Services; upon completion, it was put on display at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. It was later seen at the Meadow Brook Concours.
