This 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso is the 108th of 350 examples produced. It left the factory in late September of 1963 and was delivered to its first owner, Ivo Coughi of Modena, soon thereafter. Mr. Coughi used 5003 regularly until July 1965, whereupon he sold the car to a resident of Rome then showing over 24,200 kilometers. A short time later, the car was purchased by an American expatriate living in Rome. By February of 1981, the car had been in the United States for some time and appears for sale at FAF Motorcars of Tucker, Georgia, with approximately 47,000 kilometers on the odometer.
The car was later owned by Dr. Shockley, a neurosurgeon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for whom 5003 was given a complete restoration at Skip McCabe's Automotive Restoration in Mundelein, Illinois. Most of the mechanical work was performed by John Hajduk at Motorkraft of Noblesville, Indiana.
Kevin Dwyer of Illinois acquired the Lusso in 2007 and sold it in April 2009 to Paul Schwartz of Orinda, California. During Mr. Schwartz's tenure, the car was exhibited regularly, earning the Ferrari Cup during the 2012 and 2014 editions of the Concours on the Avenue in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Schwartz's final exhibition with 5003 was in August 2014 during the 29th Annual Concorso Italiano in Seaside, California. A month later, Mr. Schwartz sold the car to Adam Levine. It was given a comprehensive service at Gran Touring Classics in Long Beach, including attention to the braking, cooling, electrical, fuel, and ignition systems, plus carburetor tuning.
This Lusso is finished in black over red leather and rides on a set of Borrani wire wheels. In July 2021, the car was successfully certified by Ferrari Classiche as a numbers-matching example retaining its original engine, gearbox, differential and body.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2021

This 250 GT Lusso is chassis number 5003, it is one of only 350 built, and each example was individually tailored to its customer. The model was an attempt by Ferrari to bridge the gap between its competition cars and its upscale luxury 2+2s. It combined the majority of the formidable 250 GTO racer's chassis characteristics and a 'street tuned' version of that car's engine with a luxurious interior. The unique dashboard placed both the speedometer and tachometer in the center, hooded and angled toward the driver.
