1920 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Navigation
This car was imported as a chassis from England in 1920. In the early 1930's after the depression, it was re-bodied as a Sedanca (Town Car). This is probably the only English ghost to receive such treatment.
This body bears the distinctive Brewster styling of the early 1930's but is different from the standard designs offered mainly on the Phantom I and II at the time. Note the bottom-curved line of the doors which cover the chassis. The central position of the door handles is also rather unusual. The car was awarded the Blenheim Trophy for the Best Prewar Formal Car at Monterrey in 2004.
In 1907, when horses were still the preferred mode of travel and automobiles were loud, smelly and unreliable, Henry Royce of Rolls-Royce, Ltd., unveiled a one-of-a-kind, silver plated, whisper-quiet 40-50 hp legend, the 'Silver Ghost.' The Silver Ghost broke world endurance and mileage records - almost 24 mpg for a two-tone car - on a 15,000 mile run. But what really made the difference was the car's silent engine. Drivers of the day likened it to a sewing machine. Rolls-Royce produced the Silver Ghost from 1907 through 1925. This example was originally purchased by Winfield Sheehan, of Fox Studios, in 1921, and was rebodied by Brewster, as it is seen here, in 1932. The car appeared in the movie, 'Al Capone,' in 1959, while it was owned by Pacific Auto Rentals. The current owner purchased the car in 2005 and has had it extensively restored mechanically.
