1911 Maxwell Model AB Runabout

This Maxwell was incomplete and in 'badly worn' condition prior to its restoration, which took seven years, from 1995 to 2002. The owners - who performed the restoration - located traces of original color and striping, which enabled them to accurately restore the car.

The two-cylinder motor develops 14 horsepower. It features a planetary transmission and magneto ignition. The gas lights, top, and windshield were options.

The Maxwell was one of the most popular automobiles of its era - approximately 20,500 were sold in 1910. That year Ben Briscoe launched the U.S. Motor Company, combing Maxwell-Briscoe and Columbia and, eventually, Stoddard-Dayton and Brush. Maxwell survived the failure of U.S. Motors, but only until 1925 when the last Maxwell was built.
