1928 Graham-Paige Model 610 Navigation
The Graham brothers, Joseph, Robert, and Ray made their fortune in glass manufacturing. They sold their interests to Libbey-Owens and began building trucks and tractors. Their first product was a conversion for Model T Ford chassis. The product was popular and soon the Grahams were assembling complete trucks of their own design, using engines from Continental, Ford, and Dodge.
Their trucks used many components from Dodge, becoming so popular that the Dodge Brothers firm contracted with the Grahams to supply complete trucks for sale through Dodge dealers. The Grahams sold their truck firm to Dodge in 1926 and purchased the Paige-Detroit Motor Car Company in 1927. Soon, the name was changed to Graham-Paige Motors Corporation.
In 1928, the Graham-Paige debuted their new model, offered on five wheelbases, four of them sixes and one a straight eight. The entry-level model was the 610, offered as a coupe or four-door sedan. The sedan sold for $875.
This 610 Sedan is believed to have been restored in the 1950s. It is a recent barn find that was running as recently as the early 2000s. The interior is blue cloth and remains in good condition. The engine is a six-cylinder L-head unit displacing 190.8 cubic inches and producing 62 horsepower. There is a three-speed manual transmission and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.
In the front are Ball Crank bumpers and at all four corners are correct disc wheels with wide whitewall tires.
In 2009, this Model 610 Sedan was offered for sale at the Vintage Motor Cars of Hershey presented by RM Auctions where it was expected to sell for $4,000 - $8,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the lot had been sold for the sum of $3,300, including the buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2009
