1930 Bentley Speed Six Tourer

Two Speed-Six Bentleys were entered for the Brooklands Double Twelve race in May 1930. Racing for 12 hours over each of the two days the cars finished in fine style, with Old Number 2, driven by Barnato and Clements in first place and this car, Old Number 3, driven by Sammy Davis and Clive Dunfee in second. The car had an average speed of 85.68 mph. Six weeks later at LeMans the two cars were joined by a third Speed Six, Old Number 1. Sadly, Old Number 3 crashed early in that race. It slid into a sandbank early in the race just after the pits. Following two hours of digging, the front axle was found to be beyond repair and the car was retired. Old Numbers 1 and 2 finished first and second overall. Once repaired back at the factory, Old Number 3 was driven by Tim Birkin in the 1931 Brooklands Double Twelve, its last major race.

In 2000, after a succession of owners, Old Number 3 was bought by its current owner and has been returned to its 1930 Le Mans specification, notably reclad in authentic Rexine exactly as it was produced at Vanden Plas when new. This and the sister car were the last cars to be built on the Speed Six production line, both bodied by Vanden Place.
